Summary: On the way to a psychoanalysis of life: Georg Groddeck's fabulous journey. Not only the philosophy of life with its idea of the nature of god, i. e. the individuals participation in the divine whole, exerted influence on the psychosomatic medicine of Georg Groddeck, but also psychoanalysis, which he was confronted with during world war one. He developed a unique concept of medicine, founded in a kind of »psychoanalysis of life«. For that he modified vitalistic concepts, e. g. by individualising the Id, an incomprehensible, creative power of life. On the other hand he turns against Freuds wish to give psychoanalysis a modern, natural-scientific basis committed to the Enlightenment to oppose the explosive power of the unconscious by introducing a radical deconstruction of the subject. The article describes initial approaches of Groddecks treatment technique outlining a »psychoanalysis of life« from a vitalistic, holistic point of view.
