Summary: Explanatory remarks on a manuscript by Otto Fenichel entitled »Topicality and Infantility«. The article initially outlines the circumstances surrounding the composition of the manuscript Otto Fenichel wrote in 1928 entitled »Topicality and Infantility«. It then goes on to show how Fenichel's classification of the opinions of Harald Schultz-Hencke on the »hypothesis« whereby »therapy must make sure that the libido flows into life and is thus withdrawn from the symptoms« (Fenichel 1928, 32), is firstly not accurate and secondly an exaggeration undertaken specifically with regards to the Kinderseminar in order to help those learning to be psychoanalysts to grasp more clearly and with stronger emotional involvement the different opinions on the relevance of »actuality« and »infantility« for neurosis formation and for the technique of psychoanalysis.
