Reflections. Martin Grotjahn as the old wise man of Group Analysis (and his father)
The article's focus is on contributions, Martin Grotjahn wrote for Group Analysis during the 1980ies. In terms of form, they combined a short text, aphoristic in style, with a cartoon. In terms of content, his column-like contributions dealt with methodological essentials of group analysis. And they dealt with the topic of getting old as a group-analyst, as a patient and as human beings in general. The article describes some of these essentials (authenticity of the leader, a dream-like perception of reality), contextualizing them punctually in regard to Grotjahns memoir. Grotjahns frequent references to feelings of guilt lead the author to an interpretation which addresses Grotjahn's father's indirect complicity in eugenic crimes committed in National Socialism.
