We are sad to announce, that after a long illness, Eric Miller died on Friday, April 5th, at the age of 78. As one of the founders of OPUS (An Organisation for Promoting Understanding of Society), its Policy Advisor, and an active member until he became ill, Eric played a central role in the establishment of this Journal and was a vital member of its Editorial Management Committee. Therefore, in a very direct sense, the Journal represents but one of the culminating contributions of Eric's long, rich, productive and generative career.
Since the current issue was days from going to press when Eric died, we plan to formally acknowledge his contributions in the next issue by dedicating it, in his honor. This issue will include, among others, a recent interview with him, a detailed biographical note on his life and work, and a complete listing of his published works. Fortunately, we are pleased to add, that included in the current issue, is what is likely to be his last published paper - The Vicissitudes of Identity.
Laurence J. Gould and Paul Hoggett, Journal Editors; and Lionel Stapley, Director, OPUS, and Chair of the Editorial Management Committee.
