This article is concerned with the social psychodynamics of climate change, in particular with denial. It outlines three levels ranging from level one denial—it simply does not exist, to level two denial of human accountability, to levels of socioanalytic or systemic denial of the possibilities of collective action. Denial is central to perverse social dynamics and the article outlines how these dynamics operate in climate change through five different indicators. Following this, a discussion on working with perverse dynamics is presented. As collaborative dynamics are required to overcome the third and most systemic form of denial, the psychodynamics of collaboration are the major focus.
