Edward Bernard Klein (1931-2016): Making the Unconscious Conscious

Professor Emeritus of Management and Psychology at the University of Mary Washington (UMW) in Fredericksburg, VA. He taught at UMW for twenty-three years. While there, he served as director of the team that designed the transition of Mary Washington College to University status. He then served as Chair of the UMW Department of Business Administration, and subsequently as the Executive Director and Acting Dean of UMW's nascent College of Business. He is a Fellow (and past board member) of the A. K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems (AKRI), and a member of the Midwest Center of AKRI. Before joining UMW, he worked as an organisational change consultant in the aerospace industry. He received his PhD in social psychology from the University of Cincinnati, where he focused his studies on group and organisational dynamics. He has published numerous articles and chapters on group dynamics and leadership, and has been active in group relations work since attending his first AKRI conference in 1979, directed by his mentor Ed Klein.

Private practice as a clinical and consulting Psychologist in Reno, NV, since 2015. He is an Internal Director of the A. K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems (AKRI), and serves as Member-at-Large on the Executive Committee, as well as Chair of the Internal Relations Committee. Dr Pritchard is also a member of the Board of Directors for Grex, the Westcoast Affiliate of AKRI. Before entering private practice, he worked for six years within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, ending his civil service as Senior Supervising Psychologist and Director of Clinical Training. Dr Pritchard received his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Cincinnati, where he focused his studies on adult psychotherapy and group dynamics. He has published articles on group psychotherapy, and co-edited (2006) with Ed Klein. Dr Pritchard was Ed Klein's final doctoral student and mentee.
