This is a response to Nadine Tchelebi's conceptual paper Taking Bion “Back to Basics” (2017) in which she proposes to consider “oneness” as the only basic-assumption mentality, and to use the term “synthesis” for what was formerly known as work(group) mentality.
After a brief introduction, summarising Tchelebi's propositions, a series of second thoughts are offered for discussion. It is hoped that these will contribute to a further exchange of ideas and support Tchelebi's aim to re-invent Bion's perspective for group work in the present.
