Steen Visholm died on 15 November 2025 at the age of sixty-nine, leaving behind his wife, brother, son, two daughters, and two grandchildren. Steen was a central figure in the development of systems psychodynamic and organisational psychological thinking in Denmark and abroad. He had been ill for a relatively short time with aggressive cancer. His untimely death leaves a profound sense of loss among family, friends, colleagues, students, and the many professional communities in which he played a formative and leading role.
Over more than four decades, Steen contributed decisively to the integration of psychoanalytic, group relations, and systems psychodynamic thinking. He earned his MA in psychology from the University of Copenhagen in 1983 and completed his PhD in 1994 with the dissertation (translated from Danish) Surface and Depth: On Projective Identification and Modern Psychology. His early professional years included work in psychiatric treatment, combined with a strong intellectual engagement rooted in the Frankfurt School and Kleinian thinking. He authored and co-authored numerous articles and books in Danish, including (translated from Danish) The Couple Relationship: Falling in Love, Crisis, Therapy , Psychodynamic Organizational Psychology (volumes 1 & 2, 2004 & 2011), and Family Psychodynamics in Organizational Contexts: The Hidden Forces that Shape the Workplace .
