In this essay I describe a process of moving from object relating to object usage in my Comparative Literature course on Literature and Psychoanalysis. My focus is on the iteration of the course that I taught in the fall of 2007, but I also make reference to other versions of the seminar, or, rather, to my sense of the trajectory of my relationship to students' reactions to its material. I conclude this examination with musings on my most recent experience with the course, in fall 2009. Despite the narrow focus of my current inquiry, I suspect that the phenomena I discuss in relation to this course can be discovered in others as well.
