The articles in this issue show how complex and far reaching the terrain is of combining psychoanalytic discussion of fields and metaphoric processes. The diversity on these pages of psychoanalytic underpinnings and points of origin of working with fields and metaphor demonstrates the foundational value of these concepts for psychoanalysis as a discipline. Core clinical and theoretical concepts were explored and reformulated here in light of field theoretic considerations. Some of the basic concepts elucidated in this issue are fantasy, intersubjectivity, memory, psychoanalytic process, repetition, the self, and transference. In this postmodern era, the tools developed and described in this issue might be used in future developments toward reconceptualizing and clarifying the core psychoanalytic concepts of creativity, the subject, and time.
