The editor of the newest section of Psychoanalytic Perspectives, devoted to the reading (contra “reviewing”) of extra-analytic books, sets forth her vision for what will become a regular feature of the journal. Highlighted here will be the dynamic relationship between reader and text, and analogies to the experiences between analyst and patient (as text) will be emphasized. The conception of this section by the journal’s editors—Altstein and Perlman—is acknowledged, as Perspectives expands into a publication that is becoming increasingly interested in the intersection of psychoanalysis with language, reading and writing.
