This brief introduction to papers by Vicky Lili and Minh Truong-George focuses on the experience of refugee children and families, and the need for an internal sense of “home” that can be lost to displacement and violence. Describing the work of two deeply caring psychotherapists, one working in Greece and one in New Zealand, it highlights the importance of the analyst’s state of mind in creating a sense of stability and a protective, containing space in which to process trauma.
