THE MATERIAL TO BE PRESENTED IS FROM THE ANALYTIC TREATMENT of an 8-year-old boy conducted 20 years ago. The delay in presenting this case was recommended by one of the dermatologists whom I consulted. It was Obermayer's impression that adolescence often presented sufficient stresses to cause a return of the dermatitis, the major presenting symptom. He suggested if nothing occurred before, during, or after this period, we could consider the psychoanalysis a success. Referring to this case in his book (1955), Obermayer said:
