Material from the analysis of a boy in his fourth and fifth years is given to illustrate some unusual details of anal fantasies. These include extensions of the fantasy "feces = baby" to ideas of feces having feet, hurting themselves when they fall, or drowning in water. Many of these fantasies also indicated with unusual clearness the child's identification with his products. The most startling of his unusual fantasies was an extension of the common fantasy "penis = feces," which could be observed when the child emphatically confirmed the interpretation that he thought his penis defecated. Possible determinants to these fantasies are discussed briefly.
