RONNY BEGAN ATTENDING THE CLINIC'S NURSERY SCHOOL FOR BLIND children at the age of 3½. Approximately one year later the staff decided that he should have individual sessions, primarily to supplement his regular nursery program, which by itself had not sufficiently furthered his development. It was also hoped that close contact with Ronny would contribute to a better understanding of him.
The focus of this account reflects the focus of the therapy: my efforts to communicate with Ronny, his to communicate with me, and the means which were devised in order to carry out this communication.
The nature of Ronny's limitations (combined, perhaps, with shortcomings on my part in understanding it) made it impossible for me to gain much insight into his inner life and into the effect of his blindness on his psychological development. These aspects will therefore be touched upon only briefly and tentatively.
