“CHILDREN IN CONFLICT: ANNA FREUD AND THE WAR NURSERIES” IS the last-known and never-before-published paper by Hansi Kennedy, presented at a 1995 conference sponsored by the Anna Freud Centre and the Freud Museum in celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Anna Freud. The manuscript was discovered in the preparation of a collection of Kennedy's published papers entitled The Psychoanalytic Work of Hansi Kennedy: From War Nurseries to the Anna Freud Centre (1940-1993) (Miller & Neely, 2008). It provides a historical reference to the early work out of which the Hampstead Child Therapy Course and Clinic (now the Anna Freud Centre) grew.
The research undertaken by Anna Freud and her colleagues in the War Nurseries, described in detail in Young Children in War-Time (Burlingham & A. Freud, 1942), War and Children (A. Freud & Burlingham, 1943), Infants Without Families: The Case For and Against
