A few years ago we had read P. Segond's text in Les Temps modernes on the tragic destiny of Eva Freud, but it was a short news item in a French newspaper that drew our attention to the recent publication of this book. After reading it, we got in touch with its author, Isabelle Sieurin because we wanted to understand her approach and to hear her speaking about how she had conducted her investigation. This had followed different stages associating research in various places (Nice, Marseille and Washington essentially), but also involved discovering some rare and moving people who still had recollections of the adolescent. Finally, as Isabelle Sieurin is a philosophy teacher, collaborative work with her students led her to illustrate Eva Freud's life history by dramatizing the epistolary exchanges in a performance. Thus her approach is an illustration of what a living transmission of a life history that cannot be forgotten can be.
