The foundational report by Serge Lebovici and René Diatkine shows that unconscious phantasies in the child must be inferred from the material, which is always defensive, of an analysis that is “dangerously permissive and systematically frustrating”. It lays the foundations of the French tradition of child psychoanalysis, showing in the clinical case that the work does not consist in revealing to the patient the content of his unconscious phantasies, but in enabling him to construct personal stories and reveries.
