Affect in Green's work has a complex nature that is both quantitative and qualitative, a moving quantity and a cathectic quality of thought-processes. Its role in drive représentance as a “signifier of the flesh, flesh of the signifier” will be discussed by following the transformational work of differentiation, of binding-unbinding with representation, in relation to the two topographies. The role of the paternal superego and of the maternal censorship, in connection with an intervention by Michel Fain and Denise Braunschweig, will be examined.
