The report by André Green in 1970 on affect undoubtedly marked a turning-point in French metapsychology, not only through a re-evaluation of the place of affect in psychic functioning, but through the impact that this question had on psychoanalytic thinking in general. My reflection emphasizes on the one hand the innovative aspects of Green's propositions in his report, but also how they contain the preconditions of the evolution of the questions for a large part of French psychoanalysts and for psychoanalysis as a whole.
