Psychoanalysts are increasingly confronted with individual pathologies related to a collective disquiet concerning the excesses of sexual freedom, an ideology of our times. The inability to build partnerships and sustainable lifestyles can lead, in borderline states, to a sort of addiction to travel, sexual adventures or professional hyperactivity. The analytic setting also suffers, but clinical experience (with two cases instanced by way of example) shows that these subjects can succeed in integrating, beyond a pathological seduction, other primal phantasies of the Oedipus complex which are lacking here: a more fruitful primal scene, a protective maternal envelope, and a symbolic castration conforming to an incorporated paternal model without too many authoritarian excesses.
