After the Freudian beginnings, psychoanalysis had a new departure in an impossible dialogue, both creative and destructive, between Freud and Ferenczi. The community of analysts as a whole witnessed a primal scene emerging between the two of them, combining a phantasy of self-procreation and a phantasy of co-creation. This theoretical dialogue, which will always be unique, needs to be reconstructed in order to take the measure, in both our clinical and theoretical practices, of the organic link between countertransference and metapsychology, starting from the Ferenczian project of a “metapsychology of the psychic processes of the analyst during the analysis”. With this project, which raises the question of the child in the adult, it is a matter of taking into account the transference of analysts on to psychoanalysis insofar as it is conveyed by the inner dialogue, in the analyst, between his experiences as an analysand and his experiences as an analyst, that is to say, his internal interlocution: the way in which he speaks to himself in the session and how he listens to his own listening.
