The text proposes a differentiation between the superego, the ideal ego and the ego-ideal, traces of which can be found in the Freudian theoretical development. The text proposes that oedipal identifications do not create the superego, but rather permit a symboligenic process that transforms the deadly superego precursors into regulatory structures.
