J. Chambrier-Slama confronts us with two opposite aspects of the countertransference. One of them, the analyst’s preconscious associativity in the session, is situated in the field of representation. The other, beyond all control, is manifested through the analyst’s unconscious used directly by the patient’s unconscious, beyond representation and language. This borderline phenomenon involving a disturbance of frontiers where identities dissolve has a point of convergence and junction with the preconscious through the analyst’s dream, a first step in giving shape to what is unrepresented in his patient.
