The bizarre object appears to be a perceptual element that has not been cathected in the sense of primitive hallucination. The appropriation of an object depends on the conjunction of a hallucination (in the primitive sense), a negative hallucination that eliminates the aspects of the object that do not correspond to the aims of the drive, and a recognition of the object’s cathexis of us, which marks its otherness. Clinical hallucinations reflect different forms of dysfunctioning of the function of negative hallucination.
