A filmmaker speaks from the singularity of his artistic practice. His current work, Une généalogie de la colère (A Genealogy of Wrath) devoted to the psychic legacy of war, depicts the role of therapy and cinema in the invention of meaningful narratives that enable the protagonists to survive the violence they have experienced. Making the hypothesis that the time of documentary listening, underlying the understanding of traumatic narratives, is constantly being questioned anew by the protagonists through an operation of “après-coup” brought about not only by therapy but also the filmmaker, the author unfolds a concrete project of research in which the art of listening and cinematographic montage is compared with analytical listening and montage. As a filmmaker and analyst, the author questions the relationship between the signifying narrative and the truth. This emancipating truth would thus be the result not only of a so-called documentary part, but also of a fictional part if the art of “de-” and “re-” editing is carried out by everyone - patients, therapists and filmmaker.
