If affect is a sign of a representation that has not yet occurred, can it be said that in analysis, truth is a purposive idea? Is truth a means in analysis, or does it constitute an objective, the fruit of the transference relationship? Or both? As for affect, transferred onto the analyst, can we see it, like dreams and symptoms, as the royal road leading directly to truth, to psychic reality? Is affect reliable?
