Based on two clinical excerpt from Marina Papageorgiou's report and a patient's dream, the author reflects on the emergence of affect in the in-between moments when contact is established between analyst and patient, without either of them really knowing its origin. This vacillation marks the entry into the intermediate domain of transference and countertransference, and leads the author to wonder whether affect is not also an interpretation.
