The author discusses in detail Claude Barazer's report as it appeared in the CPLF 2024 Bulletin. While the analysis of Freudian elaborations on hysterical identification is rich, subtle and insightful, the author notes a certain reluctance to follow Freud's proposals on the melancholic process and narcissistic identifications. He questions the lack of importance given to the participation of the responses of the object, and therefore of the analyst, in identificatory processes, and feels the role of identifications in the constitution of the agencies, as well as in the resolution of the Oedipus complex, at the heart of the second topography, is not developed sufficiently. On the subject of identifications, it is suggested that the hysterical model should be contrasted with the narcissistic model rather than the melancholic model, and that melancholic identification is only one of the forms of narcissistic identification.
