During the first consultations, the analyst grapples with the relational dimension of family functioning and the dynamics of the defensive systems of each of the protagonists. The evolution of the indications depends on the possibility of establishing a temporality in an economy of cathexes that allows for displacements of projections and splitting, and movements of identification. In successful cases, our work of being open to and even of transforming defensive movements provides the conditions necessary for retroactive effects to unfold subsequently, thanks to the transference onto the analyst and the consequent actualization of the infantile world of the parents.
