Today, the economic point of view in metapsychology still remains popular : whether it is a matter of the psychoanalytic approach to trauma, or the dialogue with the neurosciences, the energetic conception of psychical processes remains a reference point in the field of contemporary psychopathology. However, this infatuation with economic perspectives tends to do away with any reference to the sexual nature of the psychical energy in question in spite the fact that, as early as 1905, Freud's introduction of the concept of ‘libido’ had excluded from the field of metapsychology any desexualised conception of the psychical energy of the drive. We can see that the contemporary tendency to delibidinalize the economic perspective insidiously erases this fundamentally subversive Freudian initiative, and may, in a sense, be a form of resistance to psychoanalysis.
