A detour via the notions of countertransference, the analytical field and psychic figurability helps to build bridges between Freud and Winnicott on the question of trauma and remembering, drawing in particular on Winnicott's text ‘Fear of breakdown’ (1974), as well as Freud's papers ‘Remembering, repeating and working through’ (1914) and ‘Constructions in analysis’ (1937).
