Only used as a subject, the French pronoun “on” is a pronoun used to refer to one person or many. This pronoun can refer to an indeterminate group of people, so that it can sometimes become impossible to identify who speaks. This indeterminacy allows it to be a substitute for all other pronouns. Real playground, the pronoun gives the speaker the opportunity to include or exclude himself, both to be like and not to be.
