The interview with E. Kittler published in the dossier “Psychoanalysis in Germany” (Rfp, 1/2024) contains some inaccuracies belittling the DPG, which are therefore in need of clarification. Since 1950, Germany has had two psychoanalytic societies, the DPG and the DPV, of which E. Kittler is a member. Since the 1980s, the DPG has been working on its past and has opened itself up to international psychoanalysis, resulting in its admission to the IPA in 2009. Contrary to E. Kittler's comments, relations with the DPV have developed positively, with joint collaboration and research. The accusations still linking the DPG to the Nazi legacy seem unfounded to us, perhaps due to a lack of knowledge of its history. Furthermore, the criticisms of its current psychoanalytic practice, particularly regarding the frequency of sessions and free association, are erroneous; and the issue of the training and integration of psychoanalysts into the German healthcare system deserves a more measured analysis.
