Alain Bashung's work illustrates the creativity of a quality of relationship detached from a specific, determined objective. In the debate on the effectiveness of psychotherapy, the relational factor is readily accepted as a non-rational part of the process conceived and hoped for according to medical epistemology. However, contemporary research proves the dominant importance of a relationship that escapes this lifeless objectivity of the unexpected; the heuristic value of the transference and the transitional is confirmed here. A few examples show how what deviates from the frame can take on a beneficial mutative value for the therapeutic process, provided that the frame remains well established, guaranteeing both what activates and what regulates surprise. More than the transitional, this paradoxical quality is likened to the ambiguities of the affectionate trend, considered as a meta-model of the effectiveness of psychotherapies, capable of linking libido and self-preservation.
