By positing a primal fantasy of the primal scene and a primary identification with the father, Freud endowed mental life with the difference between the sexes and generations, thereby assigning the subject a clear Oedipal identity and place. French psychoanalysis makes its failure a structural element of psychosis. For Piera Aulagnier and Paul-Claude Racamier, the fantasy of self-generation is psychotic. Some are thus alarmed by medical techniques of procreation. At the same time, we have understood with Winnicott that the object must first be created in order to be found on the path to reality. But he also proposes a subjective subject, valuing creativity and the need to preserve the “true self” from any impingement. How can these two contradictory positions be reconciled? We must therefore take into account the temporality of psychic birth, the cathexis of the unborn child by its parents, and its binding effect on the child's drive impulses.
