The psychosomatic approach to infant and child clinical practice initiated by pediatricians, child psychoanalysts and adult psychoanalysts has given rise to fruitful work opening up new perspectives on the origins of the psyche and their influence on adult pathologies. The author draws on new or revisited concepts such as monism and psychosomatic unity, the censorship of woman-as-lover, basic narcissism, and finally the imperative of ego prematurity to demonstrate the richness of such contributions to adult clinical practice.
