[30 September 1929]1
Berlin-Tegel
Dear Jones,
I also believe we would be doing the right thing if we tried to preserve this instrument for our movement and made it available for future work. Even if at some future point I can stay no longer as a guest in Dr. Simmel's villa, the house will still be valuable for other analysts. Therefore join in the relief work.
Cordially yours,
Freud
This note is the postscript to a letter from Ernst Simmel to Jones, 30 September 1929, regarding the precarious state of Simmel's psychoanalytic clinic at Tegel Sanatorium outside Berlin. The clinic had opened in April 1927, was in a state of bankruptcy between 15 September and 20 October 1929, and finally closed down at the end of August 1931; see Brecht et al. (1985, pp. 46-49). In Jones (1957a, p. 129; 1957b, p. 136) the date of the clinic's opening is given incorrectly as November 1926.
