This paper describes the interconnectedness of corruption at three levels: the intra-psychic, the relational and the societal, that is, developing ideas of corruptibility in the individual, in the family, and in the organisation and society. This thesis is built on the notion of human development that moves from states of undifferentiated fusion between self and object, in which high levels of persecutory anxiety are experienced, to states of thoughtfulness and consideration of others and a sense of being in touch with reality, to states of being urged back to phantasies of being in possession of unlimited wealth through a corrupted sense of entitlement. The role of leadership in corruption is described in the evolution of processes of moving away from caution and valuing others, towards the excitement of narcissistic and omnipotent gratification.
